Fact: DeRay Mckesson is super smart. I’ve been following him on twitter for a while. He’s a Black Lives Matter activist and the author of two of my favorite repeat tweets: “I love my blackness. And yours.” and “Sleep well. Don’t forget to dream.”
Also fact: he has a podcast now called Pod Save the People. It’s under the Crooked Media umbrella, which also includes Pod Save America, which is great, but Pod Save the People is even better. Every episode starts with DeRay, Brittany Packnett, and Sam Sinyangwe going through the news together. Just listening to brilliant young people of color talk about what is happening is really cool. I feel like that’s where I learn most. He also brings guests on to talk through thorny and interesting things, like the difference between Medicare and Medicaid as it relates to the various iterations of the “health care” (tax cut) bill.
Pretty great stuff. I like that I can listen to podcasts while I do other things. It’s the end of the school year, I’m worn out, and I do a lot of resting on weekends. Not much better than DeRay & co. doing their poetry in my ears while I work on a puzzle.
